“We started at the same time as Randy Travis doing all the same gigs. They had still never played a live show together.Their first gig was at MTSU’s Murphy Center, and Stewart was so nervous he threw up.“We got thrown into the deep end because we opened for Alabama for two years,” Innis said. Members signed with RCA Records by the end of the summer, decided to call themselves Restless Heart and released their first single, “Let the Heartache Ride,” in January 1985. Stewart got married the next weekend. The band, which still didn’t have a name, recorded its first album the first weekend of April in 1984. “Nobody in my family thought I was going to do it, but I called them and said, ‘I can’t believe I’ve done it.’ ”That was in November 1983.
